The Department of Mathematics awards various prizes at the end of the academic year, based on academic performance.

Our departmental prizes

Eligibility

Open to International (including EU) and UK (home) students.

Open to students in the Department of Mathematics.

All students in the Department are eligible for these prizes.

How to apply

There is no application for these prizes. We automatically consider all students on their academic performance.

How we allocate

The Kathleen Ryan Prizes for 1st-Year and 2nd-Year students are allocated subject to students successfully progressing into the following year, and achieving at least 80% 'engagement' for all Maths modules taken.

Each award will go to the qualifying student who achieves the highest credit-weighted score over all of that year's Maths module marks, provided that this score is at least 70%.

'Engagement' is calculated by considering all assignment marks (formative and summative) and seminar/tutorial attendance marks for Maths modules. We discard any for which the records are missing (eg, if a seminar leader has forgotten to complete their records), then calculate the proportion of remaining marks not equal to 'No script' or 'Not attended'.
