Module summary
This course is aimed at students interested in improving their confidence and fluency in conversational English so that they can engage more successfully in a variety of contexts and communicative situations. Classes will be practical and tailored to the cohort needs.

Module aims

To increase your confidence and fluency in conversational English in a range of communicative encounters:

To identify adequate structures for different types of conversational tasks.
- To develop your listening and speaking skills through hands-on situated activities.
- To grow in confidence when speaking in a range of situations, from academic encounters to everyday communication.
- To build vocabulary suitable for different contexts.
- To polish your pronunciation and enunciation skills so that you can communicate more effectively.
Module learning outcomes
By the end of the course students should be able to:
- Notice an improvement in their conversational English.
- Notice an improvement in their lexical knowledge and their ability to make informed choices.
- Notice an improvement in their ability to convey information and opinions in a clear and adequate way for each specific situation.
Module content
The module will:
- Increase the range and accuracy of vocabulary, specifically related to conversational English in contexts ranging from academic situations to everyday informal encounters.
- Aid fluency through practice tasks which will guide the user through a variety of speaking tasks.
- Develop techniques to deal with a variety of communicative tasks.

Module feedback
Since this is a non-accredited course, assessment will be formative, with a focus on providing students feedback and feedforward opportunities.Ongoing formative feedback will be given to students in class and in response to the writing of short essays.
