Athletics & Recreation
From recreational classes to intramurals, students can take advantage of multiple athletic opportunities at York University.
Highlights include:
- 40+ interuniversity sport teams competing in OUA and CIS
- 50+ instructional courses each semester, from dance and yoga to karate and first aid
- 4 gymnasia
- Canlan Ice Sports York: 6 hockey rinks, including 5 NHL-sized and 1 international-sized rink
- Toronto Track & Field Centre: outdoor, eight-lane Chevron track and throwing paddock; indoor, five-lane, 200-metre oval; eight-lane, 60-metre sprint and hurdle runway; heavy-weight training room
- 2 softball fields
- 5 dance/aerobic studios
- 11,000-square-foot Tait McKenzie Centre recreation facility, with 3 gyms, 1 pool, a fitness centre and studios for instructional classes
- 25-metre swimming pool

York Lions
Student-athletes at York have been competing against rival institutions on the Canadian sport scene for over 40 years. Since the inception of organized interuniversity competition in 1965, York has won 166 provincial banners and 30 national titles. Currently, more than 400 student-athletes compete on 19 different teams in 11 sports.
Atkinson Centre for Mature and Part-time Students (ACMAPS)
The Atkinson Centre was established to provide a home for mature and part-time students. We are committed to supporting the success of mature students from their time of admission through to their graduation.
Services include:
- Annual Orientation Events;
- The Mature Student First-Year Experience Program;
- Peer-to-peer mentoring; and
- Various student success workshops.

Centre for Indigenous Student Services (CISS)
CISS offers culturally appropriate support services to a diverse Indigenous student population at York. The main office, located at 246 York Lanes, and the second location Skennen’kó:wa Gamig, “the House of Great Peace,” are welcoming, safe and supportive spaces.
As a member of CISS, you will have access to a variety of support services, including:
- Academic support: Learning Skills and Career supports; Advice and Referrals; Writing Instruction.
- Spiritual support: Elder-On-Campus Program, Learning Skills and Career supports, Advice and Referrals.
- Cultural support: Cultural Workshops include beading, moccasin, ribbon skirt, and hand drum making, Indigenous Sharing Circle (Mentoring) Program, Tipi Site.
- Physical support: Resource Room and Study Space, Photocopying, Faxing, and Printing Services, Access to Computers, Laptop Lending Program, Kitchen Facilities.
Childcare
York University is committed to providing support for graduate students with current or expecting familial responsibilities through a number of childcare options.
The York University Cooperative Daycare Centre
The non-profit, cooperative organization has served the York University community for thirty years. The Daycare Centre is committed to providing a caring, educational and multicultural environment to 119 children of parents who are members of York University.

LWCC is a not-for-profit organization, offering a holistic approach to early childhood development in a safe, positive and inclusive environment with a 5:1 Staff personnel to children ratio.

Graduate Student Association (YUGSA)
Graduate Student Association
As a students’ union, the York University’s Graduate Student Association (YUGSA) is committed to representing graduate students’ interests and advancing students’ and workers’ rights across and beyond York’s campuses.
The YUGSA offers a variety of services for graduate students, including:
- A health plan for those not covered under collective agreements;
- Academic Funds for conference travel, skills development, and thesis support;
- Dependant Bursaries to ease the pressure of taking care of a dependant while studying;
- Structural funding distributed through departmental graduate student associations;
- The administration of the Grad Lounge and Grad Café (166 & 167 South Ross);
- Interest-free emergency loans;
- Photocopying and faxing services;
- International Student Identity Cards (ISIC); and
- Advocacy for individual students.
