The following checklist can assist you in preparing for your research career at York and help ensure a smooth transition to campus life.

For Postdoctoral Visitors

  1. Sign your offer letter, complete the direct deposit form, and provide the necessary information for Payroll.

  2. Stay tuned for the email with your York employee ID number. This will coincide closely with the start date of your appointment.

  3. Set up your Passport York online authentication, and email account. These allow you to log into online campus services.

  4. Become acquainted with HR Self Serve, where you can access details on pay, etc.

  5. Complete any required health and safety training, in addition to any supplementary training from your specific area.

6. Get your YU-card, York’s official university ID card which you’ll need to access campus services including the Library.

  1. Speak with your supervisor to arrange access to office space and/or labs.

  2. Sign up for the Healthcare Spending Account.

9. Review transit details for getting to campus, including the York University subway station. Parking permits can also be purchased through Parking Services.

  1. You will be subscribed to FGSnews, a monthly e-newsletter that covers all things postdoc at York University. You may unsubscribe at any time.

  2. Check out the Individualized Development Plan (IDP)–Postdoctoral Researchers. It is designed to provide a framework for encouraging active participation among postdocs in professional skills training and career management over the course of their postdoc.

For Postdoctoral Fellows—Fellowship Administered at York (e.g., CIHR PDF, Banting PDF)

  1. Sign applicable letter outlining your Fellowship details, complete the direct deposit form, and provide the necessary information for Payroll.
