Rigorous. Innovative. Impactful.
In the Department of Economics and Related Studies 93 per cent of our research and 100 per cent of our research impact in Economics and Econometrics are rated either world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021).
How do global economic shocks impact children? Can social policies help reduce inequalities in mental health? How can financial tools help the switch to renewable energy sources? What are the causes of financial crises?
With expertise across the full breadth of economics, we conduct first-rate research into some of the most urgent issues facing society today. To investigate these issues we combine the use of real-world data with solid econometric approaches and economic theoretical frameworks.
From hospital waiting times and kidney exchange programmes to educational decisions and complex financial forecasting, our research has an impact throughout the world via policy-making institutions, commercial organisations, think tanks and non-governmental organisations.
