Whether you live on or off campus, every student at York is a member of one of our 11 colleges.

Each college has its own history and character, but they're all here to provide the same thing; colleges are your foundation for getting involved in campus life and a gateway to exploring the wider university community.

With a team of staff and student volunteers, colleges are somewhere to foster a sense of belonging upon arrival, make friends and try out new things.

From student volunteers who greet you upon arrival and see you through your first year, to experienced teams of college staff, there's always someone on hand who's happy to help.

Community involvement

Our colleges' team of staff and student helpers are there to help you get involved in University life, through regular events, activities and fun community initiatives.

Somewhere to belong

Colleges make the transition to university life smoother by providing a smaller community within the larger university, in which to find your feet, try new things and make new friends.

Sport, music, activities and events

As well as providing their own host of activities and events, each college is home to its own sporting teams, while the College Music Scheme provides resources and events for the musically minded.

Accommodation, catering and social space

Each college has accommodation for a number of their student members. They're also home to catering outlets, social spaces and their own junior common rooms for members to relax in and enjoy.

A place to challenge yourself

Get involved by running for a position on the college committee and delivering campaigns, coordinate college sports teams and socials, or arrange activities and events for your fellow members.
