# Apply for a visa from outside the UK

What to do if you are entering the UK as a student for the first time or renewing your Student Visa from outside the UK.

We also advise on what to do if you have dependants that you wish to bring to the UK, or if your family or friends want to visit you here.

If the total length of your course is for 12 months or more, your Student visa should expire four months after the course completion date. If this is not the case, please contact the International Student Support team.
