Centre for Health Research Inclusion
The Centre for Health Research Inclusion (CHERI) works to advance knowledge and practice in conducting inclusive health and care research for public good. We do this through leading national and international research with diverse underserved groups, delivering training, and capacity building.
Stark health inequalities persist in the UK, with underserved groups often experiencing the poorest health outcomes. These groups are also less likely to take part in health and care research. Underserved groups include people living with disabilities, ethnic minority communities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, people facing socioeconomic disadvantage, groups that are geographically isolated in rural areas, young children, the elderly, prison populations, and many other marginalised groups who are underrepresented in research.
Diversity and Inclusion are well recognised as integral to conducting research that is relevant to underserved populations and impactful in real-world settings. Many gaps exist, though, between guidance and action, and our understanding of best practices in conducting inclusive research with a wide range of underserved groups is still quite limited.
The Centre for Health Research Inclusion works to improve understanding of research practices that help reduce health inequalities and ensure that findings translate into better health outcomes for all. We are dedicated to improving expertise in conducting health and care research that is more equitable, more representative, and more impactful – research that reflects the diversity of the populations it aims to serve.
