As soon as your place is confirmed and your status on UCAS HUB is 'unconditional firm', there are some things you will need to do.

We will send a 'joining instructions' email to your personal email account detailing what to do - please read it carefully.

  1. Set up your IT account and two-factor authentication

Set up your Uni account at idm.york.ac.uk using the York username and password sent to you in your joining instructions email.

You must also register for the Duo two-factor authentication service in order to use most University systems.

You'll automatically get a University email address when you register your IT account, provided by Google Workspace for EducationSet up a separate two-factor authentication on your University Google account straight away in order to avoid losing access.

Keep checking your University email account as this is where we will send all future communications, including any module choices.

  1. Enrol as soon as possible after receiving your joining instructions email

You must wait to receive your joining instructions email before you can enrol.

Log in to e:vision (your student record) to complete the enrolment tasks. You'll need your York username and password and you must also register for the Duo two-factor authentication service before you can use e:vision.

You need to enrol to ensure you get your student finance on time (if you've applied for it). Your student finance payments will be made by your student finance provider shortly after your course begins, not when you enrol.

  1. Confirm your accommodation and college

On campus\ Using our Accommodation Hub, apply for University accommodation (or accept your offer if you've pre-booked. If you haven't yet decided where to live, find out more about campus accommodation and live chat with our friendly accommodation advisers.

Off campus\ If you're not living on campus, find somewhere to live. It's also advisable to insure your personal belongings (contents insurance is included in all University accommodation). If you live off campus, you are still a member of a college. You can see which college you belong to on e:vision.

  1. Sort out your finances

If you're applying for student finance, make sure you apply early and return the signed confirmation. Student Finance England has produced a handy video to help you ensure you get your finance on time.

In case your funding is delayed, make sure you have enough money to last the first few weeks of the semester.

It's a good idea to start thinking about managing your money. Look into opening a student bank account and drawing up a budget.

International students - have enough money to cover you while waiting to open a UK bank account.

  1. Tasks for international students

See our guide for new international students for additional things you might need to do.

  1. Let us know of any additional requirements

Accommodation

Let us know of any requirements or adjustments you may need for your University accommodation such as a health, welfare or mobility requirement that requires you to have a room with a certain facility, or be in a certain location.

Academic adjustments

Let Disability Services or Open Door know of any requirements or adjustments we can make to help you learn.

If you have a diagnosed disability, specific learning difficulty or mental health difficulty, we can recommend academic adjustments in a Student Support Plan (SSP). Contact Disability Services as soon as possible as arrangements need to be in place at least 11 weeks prior to your exam.

  1. Complete the online induction

There are some things you need to know and do before you begin your studies with us. See what you need to do to get ready to arrive, including checking your emails and completing the online induction.
