The EDI Research Centre is a central hub for innovative research in equality, diversity and inclusion.
Our research focuses on four main areas:
- dismantling systemic inequities through and within research
- employing inclusive research methods and methodologies
- decolonising research
- advancing pedagogical research and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Our vision
Our vision is to become a key contributor to the centering of EDI in the research culture at the University of York. We will advance the embedding of EDI principles such as inclusivity, decolonisation and equity within all aspects of the research process - from research environments to the research projects themselves.
Our aims
- Generate research culture change regarding the priority given to EDI issues throughout the research process
- Improve EDI research practice in relation to marginalised researcher, participant and student experiences
- Enhance EDI-related policy (eg educate or help reduce inequalities in research such as through decolonisation of research)
- Increase EDI research capacity within research centres and departments across the University of York (eg coordinate the embedding of EDI into research ethics processes)

- Develop an EDI Research Framework
- Develop an EDI Research Network
- Develop an EDI Collaboration Network with key external organisations
- Launch and manage an EDI small research funding scheme
- Host an EDI research seminar series

Launch of the EDI Research Centre
The EDI Research Centre was officially launched in July 2024.
The event celebrated EDI research already taking place at the University and introduced guests and colleagues to the Centre's plans to support an inclusive and equitable research culture at the University of York.
