# Mature students (21+)

If you’re an undergraduate student age 21+, who hasn’t come to university straight from school or college, you may be keen to meet other students in the same boat. Fortunately there are lots of different opportunities to do this at York.

Before you arrive at university you can sign up to attend one of the university's [Step Ahead.](https://www.york.ac.uk/students/support/step-ahead-induction/) events. Step Ahead is a great way to meet other mature students and feel more confident and prepared to start university.

You can also request a [Student Buddy](https://www.york.ac.uk/students/support/studentbuddyingscheme/havingastudentbuddy/). Your Student Buddy will be a current student who is happy to share their own university experiences with you and be on hand with friendly advice.

The University organises regular social events specifically for mature students which are offered at a subsidised rate. This is in addition to the Student Communities events that you can also access.

You can also get involved with the [Mature Students Network](https://yorksu.org/activities/view/mature), which is run by students.

For more information relating to support for new and current mature students please visit the [Student Communities web page](https://www.york.ac.uk/students/support/communities/).
