# Research Software and Analytics Group at Exeter

**The University has created centralised Research Software Engineering (RSE) and Research Data Science and Stewardship (RDSS) groups, which together form the Research Software and Analytics Group, to assist our research community with complex and bespoke research software needs and meet the ever-increasing need for specialist skills to enable data-driven research.**

## What can we help with?

A Research Data Scientists (RDSc) can extract knowledge and insight from data via:

- Data analysis and visualisation
- Computational statistics
- Data science and AI approaches (inc. machine learning, computer vision, deep learning, etc.)

A Research Data Steward (RDSt) specialises in managing and curating research data, including:

- Defining data requirements
- Designing tools and workflows for (meta)data transformation/migration
- Developing data management protocols
- Promoting and educating on FAIR (meta)data principles”

The Research Software Engineers (RSEs) can create and extend software for research, including:

- Numerical models
- Reusable frameworks and libraries
- Optimised code to run on HPCs
- Web/mobile apps and other user interfaces

Together the teams can produce pipelines for data management, curation, analysis and visualisation, as well as software to implement analyses in robust and reproducible ways.

## Where can I find out more?

You can learn more about the roles of RSEs and RDSSs on the [Meet the RSE Group](https://www.exeter.ac.uk/research/research-software-and-analytics/meetthersegroup/) and [Meet the RDSS Group](https://www.exeter.ac.uk/research/research-software-and-analytics/meettherdssgroup/) pages respectively.

If you are interested in working with an RSE and/or RDSS on your project, head over to our [Working with us](https://www.exeter.ac.uk/research/research-software-and-analytics/workingwithus/) page. Here you can also find ways to engage with the teams and wider community at the University.

To have a look at some of the software we've developed, head over to the [RSA Group's GitHub organisation](https://github.com/UniExeterRSE). You can also find [Case studies](https://www.exeter.ac.uk/research/research-software-and-analytics/casestudies/) of recent projects we've contributed to.

We also offer training in programming, data science and software development in collaboration with [Dr Eilis Hannon](https://experts.exeter.ac.uk/23540-eilis-hannon). You can visit the [Coding for Reproducible Research](https://coding-for-reproducible-research.github.io/CfRR_Courses/home_page.html) website for more information on the courses we offer and to sign up.
