Dr Ali Lewis

Senior Lecturer

I am Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing, and the author of Hotel (Verve, 2020) and Absence (Cheerio, 2024), which was a Telegraph Poetry Book of the Yearand a Guardian Best Recent Poetryselection.

My poems, short stories, and criticism have appeared in The Times Literary Supplement, The New Statesman, Poetry London, Poetry Review, and The London Magazine. I received an Eric Gregory Award in 2018 and have been recognised in major competitions, including the Oxford Brookes International Poetry Prize and the Ginkgo Prize.

My work with composers and musicians regularly appears on BBC Radio Three and features on recordings such as Héloïse Werner’s Phrases (a Times Classical Album of the Year) and The Hermes Experiment’s forthcoming album Tree (Delphian, 2025).

I hold a PhD in Creative Writing from Durham and have held editorial and programming roles at Poetry London, the Poetry School and the Poetry Society.
