Postgraduate Research
For entry onto postgraduate research programmes (including PhD) you will need to hold a relevant Masters degree, supported by a strong research proposal.
English language requirements
Students who have been awarded a degree within the last 7 years from the American University of Rome, where they completed their whole degree in English and can provide official evidence of being taught and examined in English (e.g., a Medium of Instruction letter or confirmation on their degree certificate), are exempt from requiring an English language test to meet our English language requirements.

Scholarships and funding opportunities
We are investing over £7m in a range of scholarships to support international and EU students paying international tuition fees, who choose Exeter for their studies in 2026/27.
Our Exeter Excellence Scholarships, recognise outstanding academic achievement and support students from around the world to take their place in our vibrant, global community.
For September 2026, these merit-based scholarships are valued at:
- Undergraduate (Bachelors): £3,000 or £5,000 (recurring for each eligible year of study)
- Postgraduate Taught (Masters): £3000, £5,000 or £10,000.
