Distance, split-site and part-time study

We are continuously improving the range of postgraduate programmes available and increasingly taking advantage of modern technology in order to widen the ways in which you can study for a postgraduate qualification.

In order to explore whether the options below may be suitable for you, please use the links on the right to navigate to your research topic of interest and contact us if you have any queries.

Part-time study

Many of our postgraduate research programmes can be studied part-time. Our degree durations page gives further details of the possible options here.

Split-site study

This route may be available if you have access to academic facilities locally, for example, if you work in an academic institution overseas.

You will receive supervision and support from Exeter staff and normally be expected to attend the University for limited periods.

To be considered for this route you will need to show that you have adequate access to the resources needed to undertake your research. You will also need to demonstrate your suitability to study in this way.

Distance-based research

This route is appropriate if you hope to undertake the majority of your research for a graduate research degree at an off-campus location, but unlike split-site registration (as above), will not require you to have access to facilities of a research organisation locally.

You will receive supervision and support from Exeter staff and normally be expected to attend the University for limited periods.

To be considered for this route you will need to show that you have adequate access to the resources needed to undertake your research. You will also need to demonstrate your suitability to study in this way.
