Case study: being a peer reviewer
This situational case study is designed to aid researchers to reflect on situations that would pose challenges to research integrity and ethics.
You are asked by a journal Editor to review a manuscript reporting a piece of research work. Consider the following:
Questions for discussion
- What are the questions you should ask yourself before agreeing to do the review?
- What declarations should you make to the Editor?
- If you do the review, what are your responsibilities to:
a. the Editor? b. the author/s? c. yourself?
