Go further in your career with a master's at Bath

Make yourself more employable with our careers support and guidance, as well as opportunities to gain experience and develop new skills while you study.

Being a Bath student is about more than just studying for your degree. By making the most of the opportunities available here, you’ll gain experience and skills which will help you plan your career path and increase your employability.

We can help you make important decisions about the type of career you want. By the time you graduate, you should have an idea of what you want to do and know the steps you need to take.

We’re ranked 5th for graduate prospects in the Guardian University Guide 2025,1 so investing time in your employability skills now means you too could become one of the UK's most sought-after graduates.

Whether you're certain about your career goals or you need guidance to help you decide, you can access employability support from Careers.

The support on offer includes workshops and one-to-one career appointments to help you:

Careers also holds regular events and fairs in person and online so you can meet with potential employers in your area of interest.

Some of our postgraduate courses offer a placement or internship, giving you the chance to work in a business or organisation directly related to your area of study.

Placements usually last up to 12 months and can be based in the UK or another country. Some placements are paid so you could earn a salary while you work.

During your master's, you could be offered the chance to complete a consultancy project (also called a Practice Track) instead of a dissertation.

A consultancy project takes place with a real-world organisation. It gives you the chance to demonstrate your skills and expertise in a practical way and can help you to stand out in a competitive job market.

As an international student, you can get tailored support from Careers, whether you want to find a job in the UK or overseas. The team can also help with interview skills if English is not your first language.

For information on staying in the UK to work, you can get in touch with the Student Immigration Service. You can also find out more about Graduate visas, including eligibility requirements and how to apply.

Entrepreneurship support

You can sign up for the SETsquared Entrepreneurship Programme, to equip yourself with the skills, contacts, and confidence for business start-up success.

Vertically Integrated Projects (VIPs)

You can take part in a VIP and work with academic staff, PhD researchers, and other students to focus on addressing global issues at a local level. You'll apply research techniques to real-world problems, as well as develop your collaboration, communication, and adaptability skills.
