John Benjamins Open Access Publishing Agreement
Agreement duration:The UNSW agreement is from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026. Previous one-year agreements were in place during 2024 and 2025.
Acceptance date: Eligible articles that have an acceptance date during the term of this agreement from 1st January 2026 - 31st December 2026 are eligible to be published open access.
Summary: John Benjamins Publishing Company was founded in the 1960's and at present publishes 85 hybrid journals. It is an academic publisher in the social sciences and humanities with a focus on linguistics and related fields. This agreement with UNSW means affiliated authors can publish openly across hybrid John Benjamins journal. Text and Data Mining activities possible free of charge via API or other methods. The agreement allows uncapped publishing. NB: journals that change from hybrid to fully open during the course of the agreement also remain available for open access publishing for the duration of the agreement (one year).

Information for authors: Article eligibility depends on the corresponding author affiliating with UNSW. In most cases, articles are only eligible if UNSW is the corresponding author's primaryaffiliation in both the publishing system and in the article itself. UNSW corresponding authors must use their UNSW institutional email address (name@unsw.edu.au) to be eligible under this agreement and to help verify affiliation. Articles are published under a CC BY licence. There are no additional page or colour charges.
All current UNSW researchers including HDR candidates are eligible.
For journal response times between submission and acceptance you should check the specific journal guidelines for accurate information.
Eligible article types:Research Article, Review Article, Book Review.
How to submit your article for open access publishing:
- The UNSW corresponding author should follow the usual article submission process, see John Benjamins website.
- The submitted article will go through thorough peer review.
- If the article is accepted, the publisher will automatically arrange for Open Access publishing under a CC BY licence type. If an author specifically requests a different CC licence this can be arranged through the publisher.
- To comply with the Open Access policy the UNSW corresponding author will need to retain the rights to Author Accepted Manuscript and deposit into UNSWorks using a CC BY licence.
Corresponding authors should not use personal email addresses(e.g. Hotmail, Gmail)or email addresses affiliated with other organisations, research centres or institutes.Otherwise they may be ineligible under the terms of this agreement.
