Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
There is a suite of support offered to staff interested in learning more about the Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoTL). These are open to all UNSW staff (Education Focussed, combined track, and professional). Specific examples include:
- The SoTL series: offers workshops, presentations, and a Journal Club. All events held in the Teaching Commons.
- SoTL Teams channel (UNSW staff only): the channel acts as a central hub where university staff can connect through shared SoTL interests, exchange resources and updates, and ask or answer SoTL-related questions.
- Peer Review of Journal Mentorship: several initiatives to develop skills for peer review of SoTL journal articles, which include the UNSW/Teaching and Learning Inquiry (TLI) Peer Reviewer of Journals Mentoring Program and the Journal of University Teaching and Learning Practice (JUTLP).
- Abstract writing: targeted abstract writing workshops and drop-in sessions for educational conferences.
- Advance HE Fellowship: support with applications, cross-institutional networking opportunities, mentorship, professional development.\

Teaching Development
EF academics have access to a series of Teaching Development sessions helping them develop professionally or help them develop their craft.
- Teaching Commons: a dedicated space where our teaching and education staff can connect, collaborate and share ideas. Many of our educational meetings, programs, workshops and events are hosted there.
- Workshops, panels, presentations, roundtables and more: we offer a diverse range of professional learning series throughout the year for our teaching and education staff. These sessions foster connection, support skill development, and encourage the sharing of best practices across teams.
Career Advancement
- Advance HE Fellowship: support with applications, cross-institutional networking opportunities, mentorship, professional development.
- Grants: EF Grants support career development through funding and guidance for both internal and external opportunities, including applications to external professional bodies and organisations like HERDSA and ISSOLT.
- Visiting Teaching Fellowship: UNSW EF Visiting Teaching Fellowships connect UNSW educators with highly regarded educators across the tertiary sector in Australia and internationally. Fellowships provide opportunities to develop educational collaborations and facilitate interaction and engagement with UNSW staff and students.
- Teaching Awards:we encourage EF academics to apply forfaculty-based teaching awards, UNSW Awards for Teaching and nationally recognised teaching awards such as AAUT awards. We offer regular sessions to provide information and support.
- Promotions:yearly EF promotions across all levels. We regularly run info sessions to support your application process
