## SPIE Open Access Publishing Agreement
**Agreement duration:**The UNSW agreement is from 1 January 2026 - 31 December 2028. Previous agreements were also in place between 2023 and 2025.
**Acceptance date:** Eligible articles that have an acceptance date during the term of this agreement from 1 January 2026 - 31 December 2028 are eligible to be published open access.
**Summary:** **SPIE** (formerly the **Society of Photographic Instrumentation Engineers**, later the **Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers**) is an international not-for-profit professional society for [optics](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optics "Optics") and [photonics](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photonics "Photonics") technology, founded in 1955. There is no limit on the number of articles that may be published by UNSW corresponding authors open access under this agreement.

**Information for authors:**UNSW corresponding authors must use their UNSW institutional email address (name@unsw.edu.au) to be eligible under this agreement. Upon publication on the SPIE Digital Library, on Eligible Author’s request SPIE will provide the Eligible Author a copy of the version of record of the Open Access article. For journal response times between submission and acceptance you should check the specific journal guidelines for accurate information.
**Eligible article types:** All article types.
**Sharing via repositories:**This agreement aligns with UNSW's [Open Access policy](http://www.unsw.edu.au/content/dam/pdfs/governance/policy/2022-01-policies/openaccesspolicy.pdf) and authors can upload their Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) into UNSWorks.
**How to submit your article for open access publishing:**
1. The UNSW corresponding author should follow the usual article submission process via the journal's webpage (refer to links above).
2. On acceptance of the article, the publisher will ask the corresponding author to complete a form (publishing agreement).
3. On acceptance of the manuscript, the payment system will allow UNSW corresponding authors to choose UNSW as their institution and remove the open access fee. Articles from authors at participating institutions will be published under a [CC BY](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) licence.
4. To comply with the [Open Access policy](https://www.unsw.edu.au/content/dam/pdfs/governance/policy/2022-01-policies/openaccesspolicy.pdf) the UNSW corresponding author will need to retain the rights to either the Published Version of Record or Author Accepted Manuscript, and deposit into UNSWorks using a CC BY licence.
**Corresponding authors should not use personal email addresses**(e.g. Hotmail, Gmail)**or email addresses affiliated with other organisations, research centres or institutes.**Otherwise they may be ineligible under the terms of this agreement.
