The Company of Biologists Open Access Publishing Agreement
Agreement duration:The UNSW agreement is from 1st January 2026 - 31st December 2026. Agreements have been in place since January 2022.
Acceptance date: Eligible articles that have an acceptance date during the term of this agreement from 1 January 2026 - 31 December 2026 are eligible to be published open access .
Summary: The Company of Biologists is a not-for-profit publishing organisation which aims to support scholarship in the biological sciences. This agreement offers UNSW corresponding authors open access publishing in all five Company of Biologists journals.
Titles included:All five included journals are listed on the Company of Biologists homepage - Development, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Experimental Biology, Disease Models & Mechanisms and Biology Open.
Information for authors: There is no limit on the number of articles that can be published by UNSW corresponding authors under the agreement. UNSW corresponding authors must use their UNSW institutional email address (name@unsw.edu.au) to be eligible under this agreement. For journal response times between submission and acceptance you should check the specific journal guidelines for accurate information. Please see the publisher's guide for authors and guidelines for corresponding authors.
Eligible article types:Original research papers relating to original research. Does not include review papers, commentaries, correspondence, corrections, additions, posters or any other content or material.
Sharing via repositories:Please note UNSW corresponding authors can comply with the Open Access policy by retaining the rights to the Author Accepted Manuscript and depositing a copy into UNSWorks (via ROS) using a CC BY licence.
How to submit your article for open access publishing:
- The UNSW corresponding author should follow the article submission process via the Company of Biologists website. The UNSW corresponding author must affiliate correctly to be eligible. This includes choosing UNSW as the institution and using the UNSW email address.
- If your article is accepted, the publisher will send the UNSW corresponding author a publication agreement to complete.
- On acceptance of the manuscript, an automatic fee-waiver will be applied. UNSW Library has opted-in for the automated workflow.
- UNSW corresponding author will receive a confirmation email confirming you are eligible for open access publishing under this agreement. A PDF proof will be sent to you for review. The final approved version will be published under aCC BY licence.
- To comply with the Open Access policy the UNSW corresponding author will need to retain the rights to either the Published Version of Record or Author Accepted Manuscript, and deposit into UNSWorks using a CC BY licence.
Corresponding authors should not use personal email addresses(e.g. Hotmail, Gmail) or email addresses affiliated with other organisations, research centres or institutes.Otherwise they may be ineligible under the terms of this agreement.
