Spring teaching

You will study information systems and data analytics in the field of accounting and finance.

You’ll explore four specific areas:

• the role of information systems and data analytics in the context of business processes, transaction cycles and internal controls
• core data management concepts fundamental to the design of modern information systems in accounting and finance
• the extraction, visualisation and communication of key trends and insights from large datasets, in the context of accounting and finance
• recent developments in information systems and data analytics, and the impact this has on the accounting profession.

Throughout the module you are given practical examples using a leading enterprise information system. You will use modern data analytics software, with relevant accounting and finance data sets.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 33 hours of contact time and about 117 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
