The University of Sussex is delighted to offer this scholarship of £3,000 to a History applicant starting in September 2026, named in honour of Sussex alumna Cate Haste.

To be eligible for this scholarship you must have accepted an offer to study History MA at the University of Sussex, commencing in 2026.
Applicants assessed as 'Home' or 'Overseas' for fee purposes are both eligible to be considered.

Cate Haste was a television producer, writer and Sussex alumna (’66). She produced many historical documentaries such as End of Empire and The Churchills, and wrote several books, including Keep the Home Fires Burning: Propaganda in WW1, Nazi Women, Clarissa Eden: A Memoir – From Churchill to Eden, the Goldfish Bowl: Married to the Prime Minister (with Cherie Booth) and Rules of Desire: Sex in Britain WW1 to the Present. Her book, Passionate Spirit: the Life of Alma Mahler, was published in 2019 and explores the life of Alma Mahler, who was a composer, author, socialite and extraordinary intellect.
