Chancellor's Masters Scholarship (2026)
Chancellor's Masters Scholarships are available for First Class graduates from institutions in the UK or Ireland, including those from the University of Sussex. There are limited scholarships available, so there is a competitive application process.
What you get
£3,000 for applicants assessed as 'Home' for fees or £5,000 for applicants assessed as 'Overseas' for fees

Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
- have studied a Bachelors (Hons) at a UK or Irish university and hold, or expect to achieve, a First Class Honours degree
- have accepted an offer of a place on an eligible full time or part time Masters course to start in September 2026
- Who isn’t eligible
You are not eligible for this scholarship if you:
- are applying for a Masters at a university that is not at the University of Sussex
- are progressing into the final year of an integrated Masters at Sussex
- studied at a UK University’s overseas campus or external programme
- are already in receipt of the Sussex Alumni Scholarship (if you have also been assessed as 'Home' for fees)
- are studying one of the Excluded courses listed below:

You are not eligible for this scholarship if you are going to study any of the following:
- Certificates and Diplomas (including PGCE)
- Courses at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS)
- MSc Climate Change, Development & Policy
- MA Development Studies
- MA Food and Development
- MA Gender and Development
- MA Globalisation, Business and Development
- MA Governance, Development and Public Policy
- MA Poverty, Policy and Development Practice
- MA Power, Participation and Social Change
- MPhil courses
- Early Years Education (with Early Years Teacher status)
- Degrees in Social work (if receiving an NHS bursary)
- Online courses
- School direct teaching courses
- Masters funded by the research councils (e.g. ESRC 1+3 funding)

How to apply
To be considered for the Chancellor's Masters Scholarship, you need to have received and accepted an offer of a place on an eligible Masters at Sussex and hold, or expect to achieve, a First Class UK or Irish Bachelors degree. To apply for the scholarship, you are required to provide a statement of academic interests. You should include information about:
- your previous academic achievement and excellence
- your academic and career aspirations after you have completed your Masters
- any work or extra-curricular activity you have undertaken that relates to your Masters

As there are limited awards available, you are advised to apply as soon as possible. If all of the scholarships haven't been awarded by the deadline, we retain the right to extend the deadline.

Terms and conditions
Priority will be given to those that have not already completed a postgraduate qualification.
It is not possible to combine the Chancellor's Masters Scholarship with Sussex Country Scholarships or the Chancellor's International Scholarship.
This scholarship can be combined with the Sussex Progressive Futures Scholarship.
