Residential Colleges
14 Colleges. 1 Yale
Before arriving, every students is randomly assigned to one of fourteen residential colleges, their new home away from home for the next four years.
The heart of the Yale experience
At the center of every student’s Yale experience is their residential college. Despite their name, colleges have nothing to do with classes or majors. Each residential college includes student suites, a dining hall, community spaces, a gym, a café, and a library. Students often refer to their residential colleges as “home base,” or “my home away from home,” or simply, “the best.”
Much more than living spaces. Colleges are home to:
College Teas
A residential college tradition where students engage with renowned guests from academia, government, and popular culture over tea
Intramural Sports
Casual athletic competitions in 13 spots, ranging from basketball to innertube water polo, all of which earn points in your college’s quest to win the Tyng Cup.
Annual traditions
Off-campus excursions to Broadway shows, New England ski resorts, or local apple orchards, and on-campus dances, dinners, and concerts.
