What it means to be a Yalie
Being a Yale student means much more than simply going to class.
Student and…
Yalies are simultaneously students at one of the world’s great research universities and part of a collaborative community filled with accomplished artists, world-class athletes, innovative entrepreneurs, passionate changemakers, and lifelong friends. Students engage their extracurricular pursuits with as much energy as their academic endeavors.
Yalies come from all 50 states and over 100 countries, bringing with them a diverse array of faiths, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, interests, talents, and experiences. Students celebrate their identities in five cultural centers designed to create a home for students of a shared background and inform the larger community.

Yale dorms have many of the essential characteristics that other dorms have, but they also come with some pretty unique features.
Every undergraduate is randomly assigned to one of fourteen residential colleges, smaller living communities that form the heart of student life. - ## Identity, Culture, Faith
Yale’s cultural, religious, and resource centers invite everyone to engage, explore, and expand their understanding of themselves and others. - ## Student Groups
Students engage their extracurricular projects and organizations with as much energy as their academic endeavors. - ## Traditions
Yale is a place full of tradition and innovation just waiting for each class of students to continue to shape it with their unique voices and experiences.
