Since October 2011, the Department of Biogenic Polymers at the Wissenschaftszentrum Straubing (WZS) under the faculty “Wissenschaftszentrum Weihenstephan für Ernährung, Landnutzung und Umwelt” (Weihenstephan Science Centre for Nutrition, Land Use and Environment) has been a professorship of the Technical University of Munich (TUM), headed by Professor Zollfrank. Since 01 October 2017, the professorship has been located at the Straubing Campus for Biotechnology and Sustainability. As part of the TUM-internal “Leuchturmverfahren”, the professorship was converted into a chair on December 1, 2020.

In addition to holding various lectures, exercises, internships and theses, mainly in the field of (biogenic) macromolecules, the staff and doctoral students of the chair worked on various topics in the field of materials science. The focus is on the development of biomacromolecules and can be subdivided into the following research areas:

The creative and familiar working environment of the chair, together with the well-equipped laboratories, offers employees and students an excellent research environment in which innovations are approached creatively and implemented in close cooperation with other disciplines.
