Professor Burger works on chemical processes that enable a cicular carbon economy or lead to negative greenhouse gas emissions. Applications of his work range from carbon capture and storage (CCS) to production of renewable C1-based fuels and chemicals. In experiments and models, he studies related thermodynamic properties, reaction kinetics, process concepts, and mini-plant demonstrators. Professor Burger also develops computer-aided methods of process design such as AI-driven flowsheet synthesis.
Professor Burger studied process engineering at the University of Stuttgart with a stay abroad in Shiga-ken, Japan. He completed his doctorate at the Laboratory of Engineering Thermodynamics, University of Kaiserslautern, in 2012. After a post-doctoral research stay at the Centre for Process Systems Engineering of the Imperial College London, UK, in 2013, Professor Burger returned to the University of Kaiserslautern, where he took a position as assistant professor for “Process Design and Raw Material Change”. Since 2017 Professor Burger holds the Professorship of Chemical Process Engineering at TUM.
