#### **What is radiotherapy?**
Radiotherapy helps to treat cancer.\
It uses invisible rays to destroy **cancerous cells**.
#### **When does radiotherapy help?**
Radiation helps with many types of cancer, for example:

Radiation therapy can also help with **some diseases**, z. #### **How does radiotherapy work?**
- A [device](https://radioonkologie.mri.tum.de/technique-radiation-procedure) sends radiation to the diseased area.
- The radiation destroys diseased cells.
- Healthy tissue is protected.
- The treatment does not hurt and only takes a few minutes.
#### **What is cancer?**
Cancer occurs when **cells multiply uncontrollably**.\
They can form **nodules (tumors)**.\
Some tumors are [**harmless (benign)**](https://radioonkologie.mri.tum.de/radiotherapy-benign-diseases), others are **dangerous (malignant)**.
#### **What does radiotherapy do?**
Radiation therapy can help:
- **Cure cancer**
- **Relieve pain**
- **Support other treatments**, e.g. surgery
The radiation works **exactly where the tumor is**.\
Radiation does not hurt and often only lasts a few minutes.
