Career

Professor Rahn studied construction engineering at TUM from 1963 to 1969. After completing his studies he worked in the field of highway engineering for an engineering office (Cronauer) in Munich (1969-1970). In 1972 he completed a post graduate trainee program in highway engineering and bridge construction at the Supreme Building Authority of the Bavarian State. Having passed the Bavarian state examination leading to top engineering positions in the Bavarian civil service he worked for almost 34 years (1973-2006) in six different civil service departments. During this time he held various positions within the Bavarian Highway Administration. For some 27 years he played a leadership role in the planning and construction of interstate highways. Most recently he was head of the Federal Interstate Highways Section of the Supreme Building Authority of the Bavarian State in the Bavarian Department of the Interior (1992-2006). In 1997 he took on a teaching assignment in the Department of Traffic Route Engineering at TUM. He lectured on the subject of “civil engineering and landscaping (highways and the environment)”.
