Poster and Talk Awards honoured Two prizes for GrimmLab doctoral students

From the ‘Weihenstephan Bioinformatics Symposium’ (WBS2025) in Freising, two scientists from the Professorship of Bioinformatics at the TUM Campus Straubing recently returned with two prizes. Jonathan Pirnay received the ‘Best Talk’ prize, Ashima Kanna the ‘Best Poster’ award at the conference.

The two prizewinners Jonathan Prinay and Ashima Kanna from the Professorship Bioinformatics.

Jonathan Pirnay was honoured for his talk on ‘GraphXForm, a graph transformer architecture that integrates transformer-based sequence modeling with molecular graph construction’, Ashima Khanna for her poster on her poster on ‘AI-Designing Enzymes for the Bioeconomy’. The two doctoral students belong to the lab of Prof. Dr Dominik Grimm from the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf Weihenstephan-Triesdorf (HSWT) at the TUM Campus Straubing (TUMCS).

‘It was great to see the bioinformatics community exchanging ideas and discovering potential synergies,’ said the organisers in their laudation. The WBS2025 was organised by Prof. Markus List (Data Science of Systems Biology, ‘DaiSyBio’, TUM School of Life Sciences). More than 75 scientists from Bavaria and the world came together to share enlightening talks and build new connections.

Prof Dr Grimm from TUMCS says about the event: ‘Thanks to DaiSyBio for organising and hosting this highly interesting and engaging event. A perfect day to establish new collaborations and learn about exciting and cutting-edge research!’
