Video: Strategies For Reducing Credit Card Debt

If you have a large amount of credit card debt, there are a few ways you can reduce it.

First, immediately stop using your credit card. Limit easy access by hiding the card or removing it from your wallet.\ \ Second, put together a budget that includes paying more than your minimum credit card payment. It’s the only way you will get out of debt.\ \ Third, contact your credit card company and negotiate a lower rate. If you receive an introductory 0% interest rate credit card that allows for free balance transfers, consider transferring your higher balance/higher interest rate debt to it so that you can avoid interest charges during the introductory period. Read the fine print to confirm that balance transfers are free and included in the 0% introductory offer. Avoid making balance transfers to new cards as it can negatively affect your credit score.
