Documents Explained
[### The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to determine your eligibility for federal grants, loans, and work-study. It asks questions about you, your family, and your financial circumstances, so it’s helpful to have recent year tax returns on hand before you get started.
- FASFA is free for all students.
- Enter the code E00473 to send your information to Hopkins.](#) [### CSS Profile
The CSS Profile from College Board is an online application universities across the country use to offer institutional financial aid. Like the FAFSA, it asks questions about your family’s financial circumstances—so before you get started, gather any recent records that you have.
- Submitting the CSS Profile is free for U.S. students whose family income is below $100,000.
- Enter the code 5332 to send your information to Hopkins.](#) [### IDOC
After reviewing your CSS Profile, we may require additional financial documents. The Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC) allows you and your family to send us financial documents, like tax returns and W-2 forms. If these documents aren’t available, you can submit other documentation of parent wages, like the parent non-tax filer form. We use these financial documents to determine your eligibility for institutional financial aid.
- There is no cost to use IDOC for students and families.
- Please wait to see if we require additional financial documents. If we require you submit documents through IDOC, those documents will be listed on your To-Do list. Until then, there is no action required on your part.](#)
Support for Unique Situations
We know that your circumstances might change during your time at Hopkins. Your adviser is available to answer your questions and walk you through the process related to your unique situation.
International Students
International students who received financial aid as first-year students are not required to reapply and will receive their offer in early June. Your adviser is available to answer any questions.
Undocumented and DACA Students
Undocumented and DACA students are eligible for merit scholarships and need-based aid. Because you may not have access to the same documents as other students, we have special instructions for applying for financial aid.
Verification
Verification is a routine process for confirming the information on your FAFSA. If selected, you’ll be asked to submit additional documents to Student Financial Support.
Reconsideration of Your Aid
If your family’s circumstances change during the academic year, impacting your ability to attend Hopkins, you may appeal your financial aid offer. Submit your appeal form and documentation online, and we’ll respond as quickly as possible.
Satisfactory Academic Progress
Undergraduate students who receive federal student aid must be in good standing and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) toward obtaining their degree or certificate.
