T32 Training Program in Health Service and Outcomes Research for Aging Populations

The T32 Training Program at Johns Hopkins University seeks to produce the next generation of scientists with research expertise in person- and family-centered health services and outcomes with a focus on older adults.

The training program is led by Program Directors Jennifer Wolff and Cynthia Boyd with support from Associate Program Directors Nancy Schoenborn and Katherine Ornstein and a large group of faculty with diverse interests and expertise. Training fellowships are available to both pre- and post-doctoral candidates.

Read about the post-program pursuits and contributions of our former trainees, and get more information about the T32 program in our annual report.

Julia Burgdorf, PhD

"Through this fellowship, you have access to a world-renowned community of researchers here at Hopkins and a platform to engage with leaders in the fields of aging and health services research. Simultaneously, you benefit from individualized attention from mentors who are truly committed to understanding your unique goals and supporting your career development.\ \ In some postdoc programs, the fellow plays a supportive role and contributes to someone else's ongoing research agenda.  However, Drs. Wolff and Boyd have designed this program to support fellows in pursuing their own research interests and building the skills and connection needed to launch their careers.\ \ The protected time in this post-doc has enabled me to focus on advancing and disseminating my research, publishing four first-author papers in the first six months, while further developing the other skills required for an academic career--managing projects and budgets, writing grants, and building collaborative research relationships across institutions."

Jenni Reiff

"I know the thoughtful design of this training grant is providing me with a comprehensively scaffolded educational path that is grounded in evidence, skills, and experiences.  Coming from a clinical background in geriatric care.  I particularly value the supportive interdisciplinary connections this grant fosters between trainees and mentors as an integral component of improving outcomes for older adults."

Lyndsay DeGroot, BSN, RN

"Through excellent membership from Drs. Jennifer Wolff and Cynthia Boyd and collaboration with colleagues across Johns Hopkins University, I will learn skills and competencies necessary for future success in developing and implementing innovative palliative care interventions for community-dwelling older adults with Heart Failure and physical frailty.  Training from public health, medicine, and nursing scientists in this program will provide me with invaluable experience and skills to conduct interdisciplinary research which improves patient outcomes at the individual and systems level."

Mani Bérété Keita Fakeye

"Every element of this program was designed with intention, and that intention is to produce a supportive pipeline to foster a diverse and competent cadre of health services researchers serving aging populations."
