Community, Culture, and Good Vibes: Dancehall as a Liberatory Practice of Resistance and Resilience

Explore the roots, rhythms, and dance of one of Jamaica’s popular exports, Dancehall, with acclaimed choreographer Davalois Fearon.

Join a fun, welcoming, and high-energy dance class series that will take you through the evolution of Dancehall—from Kumina to Ska to Reggae, and into present-day Dancehall. Each class will include a foundation of Dancehall technique warm up and Fearon’s choreography to popular Dancehall songs.

Dancehall is not only an Afro-Jamaican dance style, it is a vibrant culture that combines music, dance, and fashion. Gain a deeper understanding of its historical context and Dancehall’s cultural impact as a form of liberation and resilience.

This introductory series is a great way to get a workout and connect with an international community. Open to all backgrounds and all levels, no prior dance experience is necessary—just curiosity and good vibes!
