Sophie Peterson joined the German Department in the fall of 2025. Her research focuses on the intersection of cultural and media theory as well as cultural and media history. She plans to further develop this work, particularly in relation to theories of Störung (noise/disturbance). Sophie’s interests also include film and radio, with a special emphasis on the documentary genre.

Sophie completed her Bachelor’s degree in Studium Individuale (Liberal Arts) with a concentration in Cultural Studies, Philosophy, and Environmental Studies at Leuphana University Lüneburg. Sophie holds a Master’s degree in Cultural Studies from Leuphana University and also studied at Université Paris 8 and the University of London. During her Master’s studies, she was supported by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes). Most recently, she worked as a research associate at the research group The Technical Image at Humboldt University of Berlin.
