Douglas G. McGrath ’80 Fund for the Creative and Performing Arts ---

The Douglas G. McGrath ’80 Fund for the Creative and Performing Arts was created to support senior independent work, with a particular focus on the development of new work by students.

About Douglas G. McGrath

As an undergraduate, Doug was known for his boundless good humor and treasure trove of anecdotes. A mainstay of the Triangle Club, he quickly progressed from writing and performing in the annual McCarter Theater shows to writing, directing and performing in his own original productions. Doug was ahead of his time, convincing the English Department to accept one of those shows as the basis for his senior thesis.

Doug took pride in fashioning a career in entertainment on his own terms in his beloved New York City. In addition to his Oscar, Tony and Emmy-nominated work as a screenwriter, playwright, actor and director, Doug was a popular essayist and satirist. The common thread was his love of storytelling. In Doug’s own words, “Of all the things I’ve done in my career, what I love most is telling stories.”

A generous mentor throughout his life, Doug served as a Triangle Club trustee and later as a member of the Lewis Center Advisory Council. His friends and family have created this endowment to continue Doug’s joyful legacy of celebrating and nurturing creativity in others.
