Collection Description
This five volume set of watercolours of mushrooms was illustrated by Edwin Wheeler (1833-1909). It is a collection of 1,097 original water-colour paintings of Agaricaceae, dated between 1885 and 1908. Volume 1 has a pasted in biographical note by John T. Waterhouse.
Wheeler was a naturalist from Clifton, Bristol, and was known for illustrating fungi. Collections of Wheeler’s illustrations are also held by the Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew and Natural History Museum Library and Archives in the UK.
