Collection Description

The Allan E. Bax collection comprises 19th century ships' logs and other documents relating to maritime history and shipping.

Allan E. Bax was President of the Royal Australian Historial Society in the late 1960s. This digitised collection is made up of a selection of the items about ships and shipping held in the Library's Rare Books and Special Collections that belonged to Bax.

The Bax collection includes 19th century ships' logs, midshipman's diaries, a ship's commission, typescripts of 2 books and unrelated miscellaneous documents.

This digitised collection includes a photograph album of the last whaling ship in Australia, the Costa Rica Packet, Thomas Parkin's photographic album, a passenger's account of several ships in the late 19th Century, and an untitled manuscript diary from Colonel Parkins Hearle from 1896.
