The Research Training Program (RTP) scholarships and equivalent university scholarships provide financial support to international postgraduate research students.

Scholarships

Scholarship Eligibility and award process Benefits Terms and Conditions
RTP Stipend Scholarship - Domestic and international students - Commencing or enrolled in a higher degree by research - Competitively awarded $42,754 p.a. stipend (2026 rate) Relocation and thesis allowance RTP Stipend (international) (pdf, 180kb)
RTP Fee Offset - International students - Commencing or enrolled in a higher degree by research - Those awarded with a RTP Stipend Scholarship will automatically be awarded this scholarship 100% tuition fees for up to 14 research periods. Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) RTP Fee Offset (pdf, 209kb)
University of Sydney International Stipend Scholarship (USYDIS) - International students - Commencing or enrolled in a higher degree by research - Competitively awarded $42,754 p.a. stipend (2026 rate) Relocation and thesis allowance
University of Sydney Tuition Fee Scholarship - International students - Commencing or enrolled in a higher degree by research - Those awarded with a USYDIS will automatically be awarded this scholarship 100% tuition fees for up to 14 research periods. How to apply

To be considered for a RTP scholarship and equivalent University scholarships, you must:

Commencing students

  1. Apply for admission and submit all required documentation for admission to a higher degree by research through  by the deadlines outlined in the 'Application and award timeline' table – these differ for and international students.
  2. Submit the scholarship application form by the deadlines.

Currently enrolled students

  1. Be currently enrolled in a higher degree by research.
  2. Submit the scholarship application form by the deadlines.
