Frequently Asked Questions

Are U of T’s engineering programs available at the Mississauga or Scarborough campuses?

The Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering is located downtown on the University’s St. George campus in downtown Toronto.

What is broad-based admission?

While each applicant’s past academic performance is a critical factor in the U of T Engineering admissions process, we firmly believe in the importance of understanding each prospect’s full potential through their extracurricular activities and future aspirations. Applicants share this information with the Admissions Committee through an Online Student Profile, which includes short written responses and video submissions. These written and video components in combination with academic performance constitute our broad-based admissions process.

Can students apply for more than one U of T Engineering program?

Yes! Students will have the opportunity to apply for up to four U of T Engineering programs in their Online Student Profile. Applicants are assessed in order of how they rank their program preferences. Students will only receive one offer of admission to U of T Engineering.

How should I direct my students to submit documents for consideration as an applicant to U of T Engineering?

We encourage applicants to forward updated course results as they become available and to check the Engineering Applicant Portal regularly to review the status of required documents. Students who are not currently enrolled in an Ontario high school can submit their transcripts via the Engineering Applicant Portal's document upload feature. SAT, AP and ACT scores should be sent directly to the University electronically via the College Board. Non-Ontario high school students can submit their transcripts for all studies to date, completed and in-progress from the start of high school via the upload feature in the Engineering Applicant Portal. If your high school is set up to do so, you may submit transcripts electronically via Naviance eDocs/Docufile. If your school is unable to submit results electronically, please mail them to our Admissions Office:

35 St. George Street – Room 157\ Toronto, Ontario\ M5S 1A4\ Canada

Note that a document submitted electronically will only be marked as received on the Engineering Applicant Portal once verified by an admissions officer. Please allow for a slight delay between successful transmission and confirmation of receipt by the Faculty.

What are your institution codes?

How do you use predicted grades in the admissions process?

Due to the delayed availability of academic results from some education systems, we request predicted grades. To assist us in the early evaluation of applications, please complete the relevant Predicted Grades Form and have the student use the document upload feature located on the Engineering Applicant Portal to submit this required document. Please refer to the appropriate form below for more information.

A student is asking me to be a reference for their extracurricular activity, what does this mean?

U of T Engineering does not consider reference letters or letters of recommendation in the admission process. For each extracurricular activity an applicant lists on their Online Student Profile, they are required to list a contact person so that we may verify the activity if requested by the Admissions Committee.
