We carefully consider each application based on a review of your overall academic record and activities outside the classroom which you will report when you complete the Online Student Profile (our supplemental application). If your first language is not English, we may also require that you provide proof that you have satisfied your English Language Requirement.
Step 1: Review our admission requirements
We consider each applicant on the basis of their overall academic history. Review the Academic Requirements section to determine your eligibility. Special attention will be given to grades in the Grade 11 and 12 prerequisite courses.
Apply using the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) application.
Your OUAC ranking of U of T Engineering may be considered when we review your application.
We recommend that you submit your OUAC application by November 7. Review a full list of our deadlines.
Online Student Profile Assessment Fee
Students who wish to apply to U of T Engineering are required to pay an Online Student Profile Assessment Fee of $67.32 when submitting their OUAC application.
Step 3: Submit your Online Student Profile
Shortly after we receive your application, you will receive your JOINid with details on how to enable it.
Once your JOINid is enabled, you may proceed to the Engineering Applicant Portal where you will complete the mandatory Online Student Profile.
The Online Student Profile is your opportunity to help us better understand you as a person and your strengths outside of the classroom. Learn more about completing your Online Student Profile. If you do not complete your Profile, your application will not be considered.
We strongly recommend that you complete your Online Student Profile and submit your supporting documents by December 2. You can also refer to our full list of deadlines.
Submit Your Documents
You will be able to see your required documents in the Engineering Applicant Portal. To get a full picture of your academic history, we require your transcripts from all academic institutions you have attended from the start of high school to the present.
Please ensure that we have received document(s) with the following information by our document submission deadline:
- Complete high school transcript to date – This includes final marks for courses you have completed and proof of enrolment in the prerequisite subjects, even if you do not have marks for all of them at the time of document submission.
- If your transcript does not indicate proof of enrolment, a student timetable with your name and date will be sufficient
- Report card or transcript with midterm or interim marks as they become available
- Proof of English facility (if required)*
If at the time of application, you have not received any interim grades, we ask that you upload a copy of your transcript that confirms your enrolment in the prerequisite subjects and follow-up with an updated transcript when one is available.
Please continue to submit documentation with mark updates so we have the most recent academic information when assessing your application. Your full name and date issued must be clearly visible on your documents.
We may require specific documents, depending on your province or territory. For more information refer to the requirements for your province or territory in the Academic Requirements section below.
*English Language Requirement
You may be required to provide proof of English proficiency as part of your application. More information can be found on the University of Toronto’s English Language Requirements page.
If you are required to provide proof of English facility, your results must be submitted as instructed on our page. Results must be received by our document submission deadline.
Repeated Courses
While we do not discourage applicants from repeating courses, it is the policy of the U of T Engineering to consider only first attempt marks. Any documentation that you submit must include marks for all first attempts.
However, we will consider any extenuating circumstances that may have had a negative impact on your academic performance. You will need to provide documentation to explain how the circumstance affected your academic history with a specific timeline. Please note that if the circumstance is medical in nature, official medical documentation must be provided as well.
Step 4: Scholarships and financial planning
Admissible applicants are considered for scholarships on the basis of academic excellence and extracurricular involvement as demonstrated in the Online Student Profile. U of T Engineering applicants may also be considered for university-wide scholarships, for which a separate application is required.
Domestic (Canadian Citizens/Permanent Residents/Protected Persons)
In addition to scholarship consideration, domestic students may also be eligible to be considered for government financial aid programs.
Admitted applicants will be automatically considered for many U of T scholarships, but you may be interested in applying for others. Visit the Finances section for details and deadlines.
UTAPS
The University of Toronto Advance Planning for Students (UTAPS) program provides non-repayable grants to students to help cover this financial need gap, or unmet need. All students who would like to be considered for UTAPS must complete the Need Navigator. For more information, please visit the University Registrar’s Office website.

If you want to live in residence, you must complete U of T’s common residence application (StarRez) via the Engineering Applicant Portal. This step allows you to indicate your residence choices. To qualify for our Residence Guarantee, complete the StarRez application by March 31 and accept your offer of admission by your deadline to accept your offer or June 2 (whichever comes first).
Step 6: Track the status of your application
The best way to keep informed of the status of your application is to check the Engineering Applicant Portal regularly. Here you can:
- Confirm the receipt of your documents
- Upload new documents
- Review the status of your application
- Receive important updates from our Admissions Office
When a decision is made, it will be posted in the Engineering Applicant Portal. Admission decisions are made on an ongoing basis.
Academic Requirements
Candidates from Canadian provinces and territories outside of Ontario will be considered for admission based on the following criteria:
- Completion of or on track to complete diploma requirements as defined by the Ministry of Education in their province or territory
- Completion and/or proof of enrolment, as listed below
The Admissions Committee considers a candidate’s overall academic history with emphasis on the prerequisite course average. You must present grades of 70% or higher in individual prerequisite courses to qualify for admission consideration. Please note that successful candidates typically present much higher grades.
Prerequisite courses must be completed within five years of your intended start date. For example, an applicant whose intended start date is September 2026 must have completed the prerequisite requirements after September 2021 for admissions consideration. If you have completed the prerequisite requirements more than five years before your intended start date, you may be required to complete them once more.
If you are following a mixed curriculum, your application will be reviewed on the basis of your overall academic record. If you have completed any Grade 11 or 12 prerequisite requirements in another education system, ensure you report all activities when completing your Online Student Profile.
