Minimum Admission Requirements
- At least two years of study from a recognized university undergraduate program, equivalent to 10.0 U of T credits.
- Minimum of 4.0 credits must be above the 100/first year level of study
- At least a B average (approximately 75 per cent or 3.0 on a 4.0 GPA scale) in your most recent 5.0 credits. Note: your entire university level academic record will be considered when your application is reviewed).
*The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is highly competitive, meeting minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to the program.
Application Deadlines
Step One – OUAC application deadline: January 15
Complete ONE OF the following applications:
University of Toronto INTERNAL Application via OUAC: Use the University of Toronto Internal Application if you are currently registered at or have previously been registered at the University of Toronto in a degree, pre-university program, or as either a non-degree or visiting student (not including the School of Continuing Studies).
OR
OUAC: Use the OUAC application if you have never been enrolled at the University of Toronto.
Step Two – Supplementary application deadline: February 1
Within 1 week of completing Step One, you will receive an email prompting you to log in to the JOIN U of T applicant portal. On JOIN U of T, you will be able to complete your supplementary application, supporting documents, and track updates to your application status.
Prerequisite Requirements
Prerequisite courses must be completed at the university level with a grade of at least 60 per cent or C – and cannot be designated as credit/no credit (CR/NCR) or pass/fail (P/F). In exceptional circumstances, the CR/NCR or P/F course may be accepted with appropriate approval. Please contact connect.nursing@utoronto.ca for more information.
- Applicants are required to upload either a course outline from the course instructor OR a brief course description from the course calendar via the Bloomberg Nursing Supplementary Application portal. Applications submitted without this supporting documentation are incomplete and will not be considered.
- All prerequisite courses must be completed by June 30. You may submit transcripts or relevant documents (e.g. registration receipts) confirming enrolment in prerequisite courses that are pending completion of grades.
- If you have completed additional courses that may fulfill a given prerequisite, select the most recent course(s) and/or the course(s) with the highest grade.
Applications missing documentation will not be considered for admission.
Prerequisite Course Requirements
***Please note we have updated our pre-requisite requirements for the September 2026 intake and beyond. See below for details.***
- A standard 1.0 credit (full course)course usually starts in September and ends in April.
- A standard 0.5 credit (half course)course usually starts in September and ends in December or starts in January and ends in April.
- Two 0.5 credit (half course) equals 1.0 full credit.
- 1.0 credit in Human Physiology OR 0.5 credit in Human Physiology + 0.5 credit in Human Anatomy.Students will be best prepared for the BScN program if their 1.0 Human Physiology course(s) cover the following topics: Neurological System, Endocrine System, Cardiovascular System, Respiratory System, Digestive System, Reproductive System, Renal System, Musculoskeletal System, and Hepatic System.
- 0.5 credit in Microbiology. Students will be best prepared for the BScN program if their 0.5 Microbiology course covers the following topics: Microbiology and Infectious Disease, Bacteria, Viruses, Eukaryotic Microbes, Control of Microbial Growth, Microbial Classification and Identification, Antimicrobial Drugs and Antimicrobial Resistance, Epidemiology and Disease Transmission, Immunity and Vaccines, Principles of Pathogenesis, Microbiota
- 0.5 credit in Statistics. Introductory statistics courses that include descriptive and/or inferential statistics will be accepted. Quantitative research courses are generally not accepted.
- 1.0 credit in Life Sciences or Physical Sciences. Examples include: Anatomy, Biology, Immunology, Pathology, Psychology, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences, Physics. Out of 1.0 credit in Life Sciences or Physical Sciences, only 0.5 credit can be in Psychology.
***UPDATE FOR SEPTEMBER 2026 INTAKE AND BEYOND:***
We will no longer be requiring 1.0 credit in Social Sciences and 1.0 credit in Humanities. Instead, the requirement has changed to:
- 1.0 credit in Social Sciences OR 0.5 credit in Social Sciences + 0.5 credit in Humanities.
- Examples of Social Sciences courses include: Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Gender Studies, Gerontology, Disability Studies, Anti-Racism Studies. Out of 1.0 credit in Social Sciences, only 0.5 credit can be in Psychology.
- Examples of Humanities courses include: Classics, English, History, Literature, Religion, Ethics and Philosophy. Introductory language courses that focus on grammar, vocabulary building, and everyday usage are usually not considered. Acceptable prerequisite courses in humanities should focus on the writing, reading and critical thinking in the humanities.

Nursing Supplementary Application
Why do you want to study nursing?
Applicants applying to the September 2026 intake will answer the following personal statement questions:
Personal Statement (Required)
Please provide a personal statement, in your own words (the use of AI is not permitted), that explains “why you are a great candidate for the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.” Your statement should include examples that relate to the two questions below. Applicants are also encouraged to consider the Faculty’s vision, mission and values when responding to the statement question.
- What skills, strengths, and interests do you have that will help you excel in our program?
- Reflecting on your understanding of the nursing discipline, what academic, personal, and/or work experiences will help position you for a successful nursing career?
There is no model answer or format for the personal statement. The Admissions Committee will look for engaging responses about an applicant’s perspective on nursing and health care. Please be original.

Leadership and Community Involvement (Required)
Describe activities or roles (formal or informal) undertaken in the past 5 years that you feel demonstrate your leadership potential and/or have positively impacted others. High school activities are not eligible for consideration.
Word limit: 400 words
Self Reflection (Required)
The Bloomberg Nursing BScN program is a full-time, in-person, consolidated program. As such, learning (lecture, lab, clinical placements) is scheduled on weekdays and weekends and varies term by term. Describe your plan to balance the demands of the full-time BScN program with your other commitments.
Word limit: 400 words
Optional Section
Elaborate on any obstacles to achievement (e.g. physical, social, cultural, economic) that you believe the Admissions Committee should consider in assessing your application. For example, provide reasons for taking extra years to complete your 4-year degree and/or periods of part time studies. Please be sure to explain what has changed that will allow you to be successful in the BScN program (e.g. you have specific supports in place, you will not work full-time, etc.).
