# Support healthy and sustainable cities

## The School of Cities is working to make cities more welcoming, efficient and prosperous.

The future is urban—close to 70 per cent of the world’s population is projected to live in cities by the year 2050. But these vibrant centres of human activity are facing complex global challenges such as a lack of affordable housing, aging infrastructure and political polarization—problems that require researchers from diverse areas to come together and collaborate.

> From climate change to systemic racism, cities today are facing complicated and urgent issues. The School of Cities brings everyone to the table to create high-impact solutions through meaningful community collaboration and new research that bridges disciplinary divides.

The first of its kind globally, the School of Cities at the University of Toronto connects a vast array of experts—in urbanism, geography, economics, AI and more—to take on issues like economic disparities, the infrastructure deficit and the lack of data on our built environments. Passionately committed to the public good, the school’s faculty affiliates frequently appear in the media, lend their expertise to local initiatives and help shape urban policy and planning.
