Provides the opportunity to explore the sub-tropical marine ecosystems within Quandamooka (Moreton Bay). These ecosystems range from the bare substrate (mud and sand), where microscopic processes support Quandamooka’s food web, to the extensive seagrass meadows, that cover much of the Bay and the large mangrove forests that line much of the Bay’s shoreline. We will also discuss the high latitude coral reefs and rocky habitats, that play important ecological roles in sustaining the Bay’s ecosystems.
CE takes a holistic approach to understanding and managing these ecosystems through the integration of physical, biological and ecological processes. Scientific communication tools will be used throughout the course, and students will be encouraged and supported in applying these skills in assessment items.
