# Planning for Medical School: Curricular Recommendations

Basic course requirements for medical schools and for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) preparation are:

- 2 years chemistry with lab (including exposure to general chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, and biochemistry)
- 1 year biology with lab
- 1 year physics with lab

Some medical schools may require math and English, and some of the sciences require math as a pre-requisite.

Stanford courses provide multiple ways to complete these requirements. Please see a [UAD for Pre-Professional Advising](/appointments#pre-professional) located in Sweet Hall for guidance on how to navigate the curriculum to best meet your interests and goals.
