# Senior Paper

The senior paper program in Anthropology provides majors the opportunity to conduct original research but, on a smaller scale than a thesis, under the guidance of an Anthropology faculty member. All Anthropology majors are encouraged to write a senior paper.

## **How to Apply**

Interested Anthropology majors of junior standing may apply to the senior paper program by submitting a senior paper application form to the Undergraduate SSO by April 8th in their Jr Year. To [apply fill out the application form](https://anthropology.stanford.edu/people/staff) and you must complete the following:

- Choose a research topic/title of the proposed senior paper project
- Identify a Senior Paper Advisor
- a two page abstract/proposal
- letter of reference from their major adviser (sent directly to SSO)

### **Requirements**

Required Classes

- Anthro 92A and/or Anthro 92B Undergraduate Research Proposal Writing
- Anthro 95B: Independent study for Honors and Senior Paper Writing [Spring Senior Year]

Senior Paper Details

- 25-30 pages (not to exceed 10,000 words)
- Focused on a specific theme with strong thesis
- Clear research questions (2-3)
- Findings

The senior paper is submitted in the final quarter before graduation. For more information, see the Undergraduate Student Services Officer.
