Overview

A Unique Perspective

Stanford remains one of the most dynamic campuses in the world because of its institutional commitment to supporting students from all walks of life.

Veteran applicants add a highly valued voice to the undergraduate community; the life experience that students bring from previous career paths or military service provides a unique perspective in discussion seminars, student groups and campus activities. We select students with varying educational histories, and while we uphold a standard of strong academic preparation and a determined passion for learning, we also look for personal attributes that contribute unique qualities to our class.

Stanford is proud to partner with Service to School (S2S), a non-profit which supports and advises veterans throughout the college search and application process. Veteran applicants are encouraged to submit either the Stanford Veteran Addendum or the S2S Addendum as part of their application. After submitting your application, Stanford will contact you asking if you’d like to submit our Stanford Veteran Addendum. Here are the questions that will be asked on that addendum:

• What is your military discharge status?
• If you would like to, please describe the circumstances and details of your military discharge.
• What is the highest rank you have held in the military?
• Please briefly explain your occupational specialty in the military, including training, responsibilities, and any other information that you feel an admissions committee might find useful in evaluating your application.
• Were you deployed or stationed abroad? If so, where, when, and for how long?
• Please list any awards you received while in the military. Include ribbons, medals, commendations, and anything else you think may help us evaluate your application.
• During your service, were you ever subject to any significant disciplinary actions? If so, please explain.
• Veterans at Stanford often contribute to our community in unique ways. Please use this space to explain, if appropriate, how your military experience has enhanced your ability to add to the classroom and campus environment at Stanford.

Stanford welcomes applications from and supports students who wish to participate in a Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program and serve in the military upon graduation. Stanford recognizes that SROTC cadets and midshipmen contribute to critical public and private sector leadership and development by building a broad range of skill sets through community service, student activities, and professional development opportunities.
