Berlin Prerequisites
There is no language prerequisite for the Stanford in Berlin program. Students may attend the program in any quarter without prior German language skills or coursework. However, students will be required to enroll in an appropriate level of German during the program for a minimum of 5 units of credit. Stanford in Berlin offers a range of German courses to meet students’ diverse needs and goals. See the course list for options.
Students with advanced German language ability may be given preferred admission to the program.
Students intending to participate in the Krupp Internship Program have additional requirements. See below for details.
Stanford Language Center
- All students, including native speakers, are expected to demonstrate their level of language ability (writing, verbal and reading) by providing results of a recent language placement test or previous coursework. For any students that have completed any GERLANG course at Stanford, placement will be based on the last GERLANG course completed. Students who have already begun GERLANG coursework at Stanford should not take a placement test. See the updated schedule should you require a placement test. For students taking a placement test, please complete the written exam before the time of your oral interview. For any questions, please contact the Language Center (languagecenter@stanford.edu) with "BOSP" specified in the subject line.
