This capstone course provides a simplified model for solving actuarial problems in practice. Sample actuarial problems are examined in detail, with solutions being developed using Excel and Visual Basic. These solutions are then reported to the stakeholders of the problem. The aim of this course is to develop actuarial capabilities beyond the technical foundations taught in other actuarial courses.
## Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
1. Critically analyse actuarial problems in a variety of challenging contexts.
2. Identify the key factors that need to be taken into account in solving actuarial problems.
3. Use computer-based tools to assist in solving complex actuarial problems.
4. Communicate the results of the solution to an actuarial problem to a variety of stakeholders.
5. Effectively work in groups and discuss results of the activities undertaken in a team.
## Work Integrated Learning
### Projects
As a work-integrated learning course, students apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios, engaging with industry-relevant problems and stakeholders.
## Other Information
## Indicative Assessment
1. The research-based assessment will consist of a nested project. (40) [LO 1,2,3,4,5]
2. The other assessment may include but is not restricted to: exams, quizzes, presentations and other assessments as appropriate. (60) [LO 1,2,3,4,5]
The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. For additional information regarding Turnitin please visit the [ANU Online](http://services.anu.edu.au/information-technology/software-systems/turnitin) website.
